The takeaway
The opportunity is becoming more visible. Your strongest next move is to demonstrate useful, connected work—not to multiply employee count by a price.
What was announced on October 9
Confirmed company announcement: micro1 committed $1 billion over the next 12 months to acquiring and licensing enterprise operational data. It says Citi and Hercules Capital are financing the initiative. The intended use is reinforcement-learning environments built from de-identified company data.
This is a spending commitment, not confirmation of $1 billion in completed contracts. The announcement does not disclose individual license prices, duration, exclusivity or downstream-use rights.
The three public reference categories
micro1’s partnership page advertises $100k+ for qualified enterprise partnerships, $500k+ for substantial operational datasets or continuing participation across business functions, and $1M+ for particularly distinctive proprietary data. Its published screening starts at 30 employees and considers quality, scale, workflow complexity and expertise.
These are advertised categories, not a price-per-employee formula. Ohio Training Data uses them as market references in our independent screening. Neither our result nor this article represents micro1 approval or a guaranteed payment.
Our analysis: show a buyer one complete piece of work
Consider an Ohio manufacturer resolving a supplier quality problem. A useful episode could connect the original defect, purchase order, inspection, internal discussion, corrective action and final acceptance. The commercial story is the decision process and its outcome. A folder of unrelated inspection PDFs tells a buyer much less.
Start with three to five representative workflows. Record where each began, who had authority, which systems were involved, what changed and how the team knew the issue was resolved. Do this internally before exporting anything.
Read our guide to cross-system linkage and our explanation of complete workflows for RL environments.
What to ask before discussing a license
Clarify whether a proposed fee covers a fixed snapshot, repeat exports, expert participation or a runnable environment. Then separate training rights, evaluation rights, derivative datasets, sublicensing and retention. Do not assume “you retain ownership” resolves those questions.
Our two-minute assessment is a starting screen. We use your answers to identify a preliminary category and the evidence a reviewer should ask for next. A sample-based quality review through our AI-ready-data process is a separate step.
